I recently went through a period where I aggressively got rid of Stuff, after living in a house with someone that I would characterize as having a small hoarding problem. And you know? It has been freeing, and all that, but the main ways in which my life has changed in relation to stuff don't have much to do with being a better person. They have to do with it only taking 20 minutes to clean my house instead of hours and hours while I try to navigate around someone else's paper towel rolls and time-life cookbooks and Tupperware half-containers. And in being able to find my stuff. And in having my books all in order. But really? I procrastinate just as hard in my practically-Scandinavian modernist house as I did before.

Same here, in every respect.

Am I glad that I am more functional about my stuff? So much yes. Did it make me magically a better person? Sadly, no.
